Here are the fixes we’ve shipped since Hotfix roundup: September 14–18, 2026.
Newspack
- On sites that lazy-load embeds, for example with iframe lazy loading turned on in Perfmatters, articles with Iframe blocks loaded a full copy of the article inside each embed not yet scrolled into view. On articles with many embeds, this could crash the page.(newspack-blocks@4.33.1)
- On sites that restrict content, RSS feeds showed the opening paragraphs of a restricted post even when it had a written excerpt, so newsletters built from those feeds lost the editor’s summary. Feeds now use the written excerpt when there is one. Posts without one are unchanged. (newspack@6.52.5)
- On sites that give anonymous readers a set number of free articles, an embedded audio player kept playing the full article after a reader had used up their free views. Embeds that respect the paywall now respect it on metered articles too. (newspack@6.52.3)
- Sites that schedule posts had RSS and Atom feeds reporting a last-updated time older than their newest article, so feed readers and syndication partners that check that time first could skip the new article. Feeds now report the newest article’s time. (Cached feeds can take up to an hour to show the correction.) (newspack@6.52.4)
- On sites with many posts, articles containing a Content Loop or Content Carousel block could slow down editing, because every autosave ran the block’s full post lookup. Autosaves and revisions now skip that work. (newspack-blocks@4.33.2)
- On sites connected to Google Analytics through Site Kit, Newspack no longer sends a hashed email address for signed-in readers. Any report or custom dimension built on the
email_hashparameter will stop receiving new values. (newspack@6.52.9)
Newspack Network
- Network hubs with a large event log made readers who subscribed or checked out wait about two minutes and then see an error, even though their order went through. Many subscribed a second time. After updating, a background task speeds up the event log and checkout stops stalling. Hubs that saw this may want to look for duplicate subscriptions. (newspack-network@2.22.9)
Newsletters
- On sites with Verify new reader accounts turned off, the newsletter signup form no longer interrupts new subscribers with a Register prompt about creating an account. Signup goes straight through, as it did before June 2026. The Reader Registration block still shows the prompt. (newspack-newsletters@3.41.2, newspack@6.52.7)
