Hotfix roundup: September 14–18, 2026

Here are the fixes we’ve shipped since our last roundup, Hotfix roundup: September 4–11, 2026.

Newspack

  • Closes a modal checkout gap where a specially crafted checkout request could get an order recorded as paid without any payment being collected. (newspack-blocks@4.32.1)
  • On sites using Perfmatters and Jetpack’s share buttons, the share icons under a post sometimes showed as plain text or blank space until the reader scrolled, most often on phones. They now appear as soon as the page loads. (newspack@6.51.2)
  • On sites that take payments through Stripe, readers who re-added a renewed card in My Account kept seeing the card’s old expiration date, though the renewed card was saved and in use. My Account now shows the new date, and older mismatches clear the next time the reader re-adds the card. (newspack@6.51.1)
  • For readers on a subscription plan that was retired by setting its product to Private, the Change subscription window opened empty, with no billing period or plans shown until they clicked a period. It now opens on the reader’s billing period with a plan preselected, and the retired plan stays hidden. (newspack@6.51.3)
  • On the Audience > Campaigns > Settings screen, the Donor Landing Page setting showed a text box holding the page’s ID number instead of a page picker. It’s a searchable page picker again, showing the chosen page’s title. (newspack@6.51.4)

Campaigns

  • Reader segments with an “Articles read” minimum but no maximum, including older “at least N articles” segments, stopped matching any readers after the Campaigns 3.16.0 update in early August, so prompts assigned to them didn’t show. Those segments match again, with no need to re-save them. (newspack-popups@3.18.1)

Theme

  • In the block theme, custom CSS written to style category labels also restyled tag labels. Tag labels now have their own styling, so that CSS no longer reaches them. The classic theme received the same fix in newspack-theme@2.27.0, released the same day. (newspack-block-theme@1.31.4)

Listings

  • When an editor’s computer used a time zone ahead of the site’s, a featured listing’s expiration date saved one day early, so the listing stopped being featured a day sooner than planned. Both expiration date pickers now follow the site’s time zone. To correct a date saved before this fix, pick the date again and save the listing. (newspack-listings@3.7.6)

Advertising

  • On sites whose Insights dashboard reports ad data from Google Ad Manager, the Advertising tab in Insights kept loading and never showed results. It loads normally again. (newspack-ads@3.15.1)

Newsletters

  • Newsletters and Newspack Network each run a few one-time setup tasks, such as refreshing the site’s link settings. On sites where one of those tasks was stored as not done, it could repeat on every page load, adding extra work each time. Each task now runs once and records that it’s done. (newspack-network@2.22.8, newspack-newsletters@3.41.1)

Story Budget

  • On sites where the Editor role can’t manage categories (for example, because a user-roles plugin removed that permission), editors lost the Add Budget button, Edit Mode, and the Archive action starting with Story Budget 1.2.5. Editors can manage budgets again; contributors and authors still can’t. (newspack-story-budget@1.3.1)
