Hotfix roundup: August 4–7, 2026

Here are the fixes we’ve shipped since Hotfix roundup: July 21–24, 2026.

Newspack

  • On sites using a block theme with the Gutenberg plugin active, the social links in the Author Profile block could stop pages from loading. No site reported it. It was found and corrected alongside the matching Newsletters fix in newspack-newsletters@3.38.2. (newspack@6.47.2)
  • Reader registrations arriving through a custom integration can no longer overwrite the fields Newspack uses to track a reader’s account status. Anything else the integration sends is saved as before, and any field that gets skipped is reported back to it. (newspack@6.47.1)
  • The Hide default avatar setting in the Author Profile block had no effect on the published page. It now behaves like the matching setting on the Author List block: avatars supplied by Gravatar are hidden, and photos uploaded by the publisher always show. (newspack-blocks@4.29.1)
  • A Guest Contributor added without an email address is given a stand-in address on example.com, which can’t receive mail. Notifications to those addresses are no longer attempted, so they stop bouncing. Real addresses still receive everything, including messages sent to a mix of both. (newspack@6.47.3)

Newsletters

  • On sites running the Gutenberg plugin, the newsletter styling defaults stopped pages from loading. The conflict happened before a page could render, so it affected the whole site, not only the newsletter editor. Those sites load normally again. The Newspack plugin needed the same correction, in newspack@6.47.2. (newspack-newsletters@3.38.2)
  • A reader who switched between two membership plans that share a newsletter list could be dropped from that list, with nothing to signal it had happened. The shared list now stays on the reader’s record in Mailchimp, or whichever email provider is connected. (newspack-newsletters@3.38.1)

Multibranded Sites

  • A brand whose front page is set to a specific page now shows that page in full. On sites using Jetpack’s Content Options with Blog Display set to Post excerpt, the brand front page showed a short summary with its blocks stripped out. Brand logos, colors, and menus are unchanged. (newspack-multibranded-site@2.4.1)

Campaigns

  • Preview links for a preset prompt rendered for anyone who opened them. Previewing a preset now requires the same permission as previewing any other prompt, and a visitor who opens one of these links sees the page without the prompt. Text entered in the Audience setup wizard previews exactly as typed, including quotes and brackets. (newspack-popups@3.16.1)
