May 18th, 2026: Preparing for WP 7.0

WP 7.0 Support: Campaigns, Donate Block and the iFrame Editor

WordPress 7.0 comes out on May 20th, so this update includes various fixes in preparation for that release, including:

  • Ensuring background colour and size work in the editor preview for Campaigns
  • Ensuring frequency layout appears correctly in the editor for the Donate Block
  • Fixes for various blocks in the editor

Add ‘Posts Page’ as an option for Campaigns in Archives

In WordPress, when you have a static homepage set, you also have an option to select a ‘Posts Page’, a static page that will display all of your posts in reverse chronological order. This page acts like other archives: it paginates the posts, and inherits the theme’s archive settings.

In this release, we’ve included the posts page as a display option for campaigns in archives. Previously, this page wasn’t factored in at all, so any campaign assigned to any archive type would show on the Posts Page, even if it was gated to a specific category type.

Going forward, the Posts Page can be excluded from showing campaigns set to show in archives, unless they’re explicitly selected.

Other changes:

  • [FEAT] Implement a cron strategy to keep active users in sync with integrations (ESP)
  • [FIX] Moved Co-Authors Plus RSS enhancements from the Newspack Theme to the Newspack Plugin to make it more universally available
  • [FIX] Ads: compatibility with the iframe-based post editor (#1031)
