April 14, 2026: Data Privacy, Newsletter Block Refresh, and Consolidated Theme Settings

Data Privacy features

We’ve added a couple new settings for sites using Complianz to provide more flexibility in the way third-party analytics and advertising requests are handled:

  • Regardless of other configuration, you can force Complianz to attempt to block third-party requests (Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager, Parse.ly, Meta Pixel, etc.) until after the reader has accepted the cookie notice.
  • You can additionally force Complianz to attempt to block ad requests (Google Ad Manager) until after the reader has accepted the cookie notice.

By default, both of these settings are off.

We’ve also updated our data privacy compliance guidelines documentation to provide some high-level recommendations and tips that you may want to consider.

Post Inserter Block updates

We’ve made improvements to the Post Inserter Block for Newsletters to speed up load time, fix some bugs, and refresh the styling controls:

  • Post with featured images that have been deleted or are missing for some reason no longer cause the editor to load indefinitely.
  • Posts without featured images assigned now have improved alignment with other posts.
  • The controls for managing colors, font sizes, and other style-related options now appear together in a dedicated styles sidebar panel, more in line with core WordPress blocks.

Post Date and Primary Category options moved

The Newspack Theme’s date options (to use a ‘time ago’ format and show an updated date), and option to override Yoast’s Primary Categories have been moved from the Customizer to the Newspack Plugin. Both can now be found under Dashboard > Newspack > Advanced Settings.

If your site is using any of these options, they will continue to function as usual!
