February 2, 2026: Improvements to Google Analytics event and parameter names

If you use Google Analytics to track and analyze reader behavior, this week’s releases may affect existing reports. Please take note of the new event and parameter names below and adjust accordingly.

Updates to Google Analytics names and events

In this release, we’ve made some changes to some Google Analytics names and events to improve consistency:

  • Prior to this release, campaign prompt IDs were tracked as both prompt_id and newspack_popup_id, depending on the event. Going forward, it will only be tracked as newspack_popup_id (newspack-popups/1509 and newspack-plugin/4378
  • All events that include newspack_popup_id should now include prompt_name – this primarily affects the data captured for the modal checkout (newspack-plugin/4377, newspack-popups/1508 and newspack-blocks/2271
  • form_submission has been removed as an action from np_prompt_interaction. It used to fire any time a form was submitted from a campaign prompt (like when you click a Checkout Button Block or Donate Block and the modal checkout opens). This was a misleading item to track, since readers could then close the modal checkout immediately. A different form_submission action will still be tracked as part of the np_modal_checkout_interaction event (newspack-popups/1510)
