Times launches campaign to support local journalism

The New York Times, in advance of World Press Freedom Day on Sunday, has launched a campaign in support of local journalism. Poynter’s Kristen Hare details the effort, which was initiated by the Times’ marketing department. The campaign consists of a brief call to action “to find a local news organization you trust and support it” and a simple search interface to local local media outlets in your region.

“This is a wonderful gesture by the New York Times in support of local news,” said Sue Cross, executive director of the Institute for Nonprofit News, via email. “We hope it helps national news readers connect with local journalists.
