The Newspack theme allows you to customize the footer area of your site by adding widgets to the Footer and Above Copyright areas. You can also change the copyright information at the bottom of the page by following the below steps.

The Newspack theme footer will display your site’s logo above the footer when you populate the Footer widget area. This helps make your footer content stand out more, without extra effort:

However, there are cases where this may not work with your intended footer layout. In that case, you can override this behavior by following these steps:

  1. Navigate to Customize > Footer Settings.
  2. Uncheck the option labelled Show footer branding.
  1. Click Publish.

Now the footer will display without your logo, and, if populated, the social links menu will appear at the very bottom, aligned with the copyright information.

By default, the footer widgets in the Newspack theme will automatically split themselves into even columns.

If only one widget is added, it will display at 100% of the available space; two widgets will each take up 50% of the available space; three widgets will each take a third, and four will each take 25% of the available space.

You can optionally override this behavior and set the widgets to display stacked on top of each other. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Customize > Footer Settings.
  2. In the section labelled Footer Widget Layout, select the Stacked layout option.
  1. Click Publish.

By default, your site will display your Site Title next to the © symbol and current year in the footer. The Site Title can be edited by navigating to Customize > Site Branding — if I set my Site Title to ‘Newspack’, by default, the copyright information would look like this:

To change the text that’s used for the copyright information, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Customize > Footer Settings.
  2. In the field labeled Copyright Information, enter the text you would like to replace the Site Title next to the © symbol.
  1. Click Publish.

Now when you view the footer area of your site, you will see your new Copyright Information:

Removing your custom text from that field in the Customizer will get the copyright to display the Site Title again.

You can find steps to change the footer background color in the Custom Colors section of the documentation.
